On Feb 4, 2021, The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda have approved legislative changes that now allow citizens to swear the Oath of Allegiance in a video call appointment. These changes were considered by the government due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Earlier the CIU Antigua has temporarily suspended 5 day visit requirement due to ongoing pandemic.
These changes were applied to make the Antigua and Barbuda citizenship by investment program more attractive and easier to apply.
Antigua requires taking oath of allegiance within a period of 5 years before the passport expires. Once the passport is renewed the validity is extended to 10 years.
The Oath video ceremony must be held in the presence of notary, additional costs apply paid by applicants. The local agents will arrange prior appointments.
Notary costs
- US$ 500 – Principal applicant
- US$100 – Additional family member
A notary is an individual appointed by the government to serve as a witness, mainly in the execution of important documents
Oaths can also be arranged at Antigua consulates worldwide with prior appointment
