Dominica to Revoke Citizenship for Name Change

Dominica has implemented strict rules for changing the name under the new citizenship by investment rules for 2024 to prevent identity laundering and the abuse of CBI program, after concerns were raised by EU, FATF and OECD. Under the new legislation, Applicants may be deprived of citizenship of Dominica pursuant to section 10 (2) or (3) of the CBI Act 2024.

  • Name change is prohibited except for marriage.
  • A person who requests name change will be deprived of citizenship.

A person who within five years of having been issued a certificate of naturalisation changes or seeks to change her/his name otherwise than by marriage may be deprived of Citizenship of Dominica pursuant to section 10(2) or (3) of the Act

Previously the Dominica government changed rules in 2023, allowing CBI applicants to change their names via deed poll, after they have maintained residency in Dominica for 3 years.
