Argentina Formalizes Citizenship for Significant Investments

Argentina

The Argentinian Government has officially approved Decree 524/2025 published in the official gazette on July 30, 2025, allowing foreigners who can prove they have made significant investments in the country to apply for Argentine citizenship without residence requirement.. The Ministry of Economy will be responsible for determining which investments will be considered significant.

Decree 366/25 amended Citizenship Law 346 and established that foreigners who, regardless of length of residence, can prove they have made a significant investment in the country will be naturalized citizens. Furthermore, it was established that the Agency for Citizenship by Investment Programs, a decentralized agency operating within the Ministry of Economy, would intervene prior to granting these citizenships.

Within this framework, the Decree published today in the Official Gazette indicated that, upon the investor’s request, the Agency will evaluate whether the investment made by the applicant qualifies as relevant and will issue a report recommending that the National Directorate of Migration approve or reject the request.

The Proposed Investment Citizenship program prioritises investments that generate jobs and contribute to economic growth, excluding passive investments such as real estate purchases or donations. The investment minimum yet to be announced by the citizenship agency as the program It is widely expected, the Argentina CBI will be official launched by end of 2025 or early 2026.

This report will be prepared based on the previous opinions of the Ministry of National Security, the Financial Information Unit (UIF), the National Registry of Recidivism, the National Registry of Persons (RENAPER), the State Intelligence Secretariat (SIDE) and any other public or private organization, in order to determine that the granting of citizenship to the interested party does not represent a risk to national security or interests. The Agency’s analysis will consider the security protocols and standards of third countries, such as those that may be applicable as a result of the application or derived from the visa waiver program with the United States.

Once the application is submitted, the Agency will evaluate whether the investment made by the applicant for citizenship qualifies as “relevant”, in accordance with the provisions of the MINISTRY OF ECONOMY. Within 30 business days of receiving the report prepared by the Agency,

The Immigration office will analyze the file and, through a reasoned decision, decide whether to grant citizenship or reject the application. Once approved a National Tax No will be issued by Ministry of Economy to start their business.
